A Russian silver gilt, cloisonné and en plein enamel powder or snuffbox, 11th Artel, Moscow, circa 1908-1917. Of circular cushion form, the hinged lid painted en plein with a pictorial enamel scene of a Russian man and woman in 17th-century costume standing in a grove of trees on a snow covered ground, the enamel plaque within a polished gilded silver bezel with cabochon chrysoprase thumbpiece, the sides enameled with colorful scrolling geometric and foliate ornament in shaded enamel against a stippled gilt ground, the underside enameled with a stylized flowerhead in shades of blue and green, against a modulated rose ground, the design with areas of stippled gilt in reserve and with applied, polished silver gilt cloisons outlining stylized pinetrees heightening the design.
