A Russian gilded silver and champlevé enamel travel icon of the Archangel Michael, Ovchinnikov, 1908-1917. In Neo-Byzantine taste, the icon depicting the archangel wearing armor beneath his red cloak and holding a sword, the shaped frame with a Byzantine Golgotha in red above stylized pomegranates and foliate forms suggesting the Tree of Life, surmounted by a hinged cross with a light blue enamel Latin cross, the back covered with a magenta velvet that might be original, struck on the underside with maker’s mark with Imperial and 84 silver standard. 4 1/8 in. h x 2 5/8 in. w (9.8 x 6.7 cm).
