A Russian porcelain cup and saucer from the Gothic Service, Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, periods of Alexander II (1855-1881) and Alexander III (1881-1894). The cup and saucer with brightly-colored scrolling floral and foliate ornament in shades of magenta, green, and yellow within cisele gilt foliage, all reserved against a sky blue ground, the interior of the cup with extensive polished gilding in arched forms recalling the shapes of windows in Gothic architecture, the center of the saucer with a green, magenta, and blue flowerhead. The underside of the saucer with a gilt band about the foot and with green Imperial cypher mark of Alexander II, the underside of the cup with green Imperial cypher mark of Alexander III dated 81. Height of cup 2 9/16 in. (6.5 cm). Diameter of saucer 5 3/8 in. (13.5 cm).
