A Russian porcelain figure of a peasant boxer, possibly Ikonnikov or Gardner Factory, circa 1860, apparently unmarked. The peasant merrymaker depicted in a black hat, embroidered tunic (rubashka), jacket, pants with leg wrappings, and bast sandals, the oval base sculpted and painted in imitation of a grassy ground. The porcelain mass of this unidentified factory is very fine and is reminiscent in particular of works from the Ikonnikov Manufactory in which the quality of the material allowed for the modeling of drapery and facial features with unusual detail. Height 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm).
