Description

A Fabergé silver traveling inkwell, workmaster Theodor Ringe, St. Petersburg, circa 1890-1894, with original scratched Fabergé inventory number 1376. Fluted cylindrical, the hinged lid set with a 25 kopek coin of Alexander III dated 1890, the body set with cabochon garnet pushpiece, with silver-mounted glass liner, the hinged covered ink bottle secured by a flared, fitted cap activated by a lever release. Dimensions: 2 in. H x 1 5/8 in. D (5 x 4.1 cm).
Theodor Philip Ringe (or Friedrich-Teodor Ringe, 1824-1894) was a silversmith of Latvian extraction whose workshop was located at 12 Malaya Morskaya, not far from Fabergé’s offices & showroom in Petersburg. After his death in 1894, his widow, Anna Karlovna Ringe, continued to operate the workshop using her own maker’s mark for close to 20 years.
