A Russian porcelain Easter egg with gilt metal mount, Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, period of Nicholas (1825-1855), circa 1840. The pink ground egg decorated with two entirely gilded shaped cartouches framed by finely chased scrolls, roses, and diaperwork in the Neo-Rococo style, the gilt panel on one side with a chalice, Gospel, and cross in ciselé, the opposite side similarly decorated with Instruments of the Passion, the egg held on gilt metal mount with suspension ring, with impressed cypher mark of Nicholas I on the underside.
