A large Norwegian gilded silver and plique-à-jour enamel Viking boat bowl, David Andersen, circa 1895. Formed as a fearsome Viking longboat, the dragon’s head with curling tongue in shades of bright red, yellow, and green enamel; the neck and tail enameled as blue scales, the body of the bowl decorated with translucent shades of red, green, violet, yellow and blue enamel, the rim with flower-inspired round shields in shades of red, yellow, and turquoise applied with gilt beads, the interior enameled with stylized flowers within bands of conforming ornament, raised on oval foot with beaded border. Struck with import marks for Birmingham, England in 1898.
