A Russian gilded silver and shaded cloisonné enamel cigarette case in its original fitted case, Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1899-1908. Rounded rectangular, enameled on both sides with a shaped cartouche with stylized blue tulips against an opaque white ground, surrounded by scrolling foliage in pastel shades of turquoise, periwinkle, and forest green against a stippled gilt ground, the border enameled with three rows of lappets in pale blue, periwinkle, and iron red, each lappet centered with a small gold paillon, with gilded silver pushpiece. Contained in its original leather-bound silk and velvet fitted case, the blue silk on the interior of the lid stamped in gilt Cyrillic letters reading “From the shop of the manufacturer P. Ovchinnikov” beneath the Imperial crown indicating that the firm was a supplier to the Imperial court.
