A Russian gilded silver and shaded cloisonné enamel cigarette case, Moscow, 1908-1914. Of rounded rectangle form, the exterior enameled on both sides with a central shaped rectangular reserve with brightly-colored stylized tulips and foliage against a mottled pale peach ground, this within grounds of lapis blue, forest green, or mottled dove grey decorated with stylized geometric or foliate ornament, the outer border enameled with a brightly-colored chain of scrolling foliage and flowerheads against a translucent aubergine ground, with red paste cabochon pushpiece. The interior with a dedicatory inscription from a student to a teacher dated 3 September 1914. Struck with Cyrillic initials N Zh of an unidentified silversmith.
