A Russian porcelain cup and saucer from the Gothic Service, Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, periods of Alexander II (1881-1894) and Nicholas II (1894-1918). The cup and saucer with brightly-colored scrolling floral and foliate ornament in shades of magenta, green, and yellow within cisele gilt foliage, all reserved against a sky blue ground, the interior of the cup with extensive polished gilding in arched forms recalling the shapes of windows in Gothic architecture, the center of the saucer with a green, magenta, and blue flowerhead. The underside of the saucer with a gilt band about the foot and with green Imperial cypher mark of Alexander II, the underside of the cup with green Imperial cypher mark of Nicholas II. Height of cup: 2 5/8 in. Diameter of saucer: 5 1/4 in.
