Fabergé
For most people, the name Carl Fabergé evokes visions of the remarkable jeweled and enameled Imperial Easter eggs commissioned by Emperors Alexander III (r. 1881-1894) and Nicholas II (r. 1894-1917). Although these magnificent creations brought him world renown, he and his staff of designers and jewelers created an extraordinary array of other extravagant objects in a wide variety of styles, using some of the finest materials; and some rather surprising ones that were chosen purely for their aesthetic appeal rather than their intrinsic value. Some of his creations were made for practical use, while others were made solely for their beauty and whimsy. We offer an extensive selection of his pieces here.
