Description

A Faberge jeweled gold miniature pendant egg, workmaster Eduard Schramm, St. Petersburg, circa 1895. The gold egg with a band of rose cut diamonds separating two stylized pansies, one set with cabochon sapphires & the other with rubies. Struck on suspension ring with maker’s mark & 56 gold standard (equivalent to 14K).

Wild pansies are known as heart’s ease both for their medicinal properties as well as the flower’s use in love potions to ease the heart- or love-sick. The English name pansy is derived from the French word pensée (thought) & the flower is regarded as a symbol of remembrance, particularly of one’s beloved.
