A Norwegian gilded silver & plique-à-jour enamel bowl, circa 1900. Formed as a medieval Viking longship, the prow with a dragon head, the mouth open to reveal rows of teeth & a curled tongue, the stern with a scrolling, brightly colored tail, the body enameled with bands of brightly colored flower heads set within scrolling violet or aqua fields, the upper border with a row of stylized flowers in alternating shades of red & blue, raised on round foot of green plique-à-jour enamel with wires decorated in imitation of a dragon’s scales. Maker’s mark effaced; but most likely by David Andersen or Marius Hammer. Dimensions: 3 1/8 in. h x 6 1/2 in. w (7.9 x 16.5 cm).
