A Russian silver & champlevé enamel cigarette case, Samuel Arnd, St. Petersburg, circa 1880. The heavy case cleverly constructed for ease of use, rectangular & of oval section, the lid with Auntie (Tëtushka) in dark blue champlevé enamel, the reverse with the dates 1877-1878 in dark blue champlevé enamel, the hinges flush with the body so as to be nearly invisible, the low thumbpiece with one slightly higher section to open easily, the hinged lid slightly weighted so that it will close on its own, complete with vesta case set with strike panel, the tinder cord channel with silk-wrapped cotton tinder cord, the interior with light gilding & with maker’s mark & St. Petersburg hallmark. Gross weight 214 grams. Width 3 7/8 in. (10 cm), depth 2 ¼ (6 cm).
