An extremely rare and exquisite Faberge gold, ruby and sapphire retractible combination pencil/pen, workmaster Alfred Theilemann, St. Petersburg, circa 1899-1908. Cylindrical in shape, the pen/pencil is set with a ring of rubies on one end, the other with a ring of sapphires. The cabochon thumb piece slides to reveal nib. The end extends and twists to reveal the pencil lead holder. The nib is struck with 14 karats and A.W. Aber W.York No. 6. The bail is struck with workmaster’s marks and 56 Russian standard gold (14k equivalent). Closed length: 2 1/2 in. Fully opened length: 5 3/8 in.
