Description

A rare Faberge gilded silver and cloisonne enamel small bratina (loving cup), workmaster Michael Perchin, ST Petersburg, circa 1895, with original scratched Faberge inventory number 57994. This rare example of cloisonne enamel from the workshop of Chief Workmaster Michael Perchin uses both an unusual color palette and style of enameling to cover the bulbous body of the gilded silver bratina raised on stepped ring foot. The body is enameled with a ground of bright Delft blue against which is a scrolling pattern of stylized flowers in yellow and white within very fine gilt and twisted cloisons. The ornament is an unusual and interesting adaptation of 17th-century sources, possibly from imported Dutch tiles or ornament prints. Dimensions: 1 7/8” h x 2 1/2” w (4.7 x 6.4 cm) Provenance: Sotheby’s New York, December 6, 1993, lot 540.
