Description

A Russian gilded silver & cloisonné enamel punch set, Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1895-1896. In the Russian Style, the richly decorated eight-piece set comprising a punchbowl shaped as a bratina, or loving cup used at feasts, particularly in the 16th & 17th centuries; six cups formed as charki, a traditional Russian drinking vessel, & with a kovsh-form ladle, all enameled with stylized floral & foliate ornament inspired by 17th-century Russian enamels against a stippled gilt ground, the punchbowl with shaped reserves with stylized firebirds, the ornament heightened with applied gilt beads. Dimensions:Punch Bowl 5 3/8 in. h (13.6 cm); Ladle Kovsh 6 ½” w (16.5 cm); 6 cups 3 ¾” w (9.5 cm).
