A Russian porcelain soup bowlfrom the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky Service, Imperial Porcelain Factory, period of Alexander II (1855-1881). Of circular form, with scalloped rim, the cavetto painted with the star of the Order, inscribed with the motto,”For Labour & Fatherland”(За Трудъ и Отечество) in Cyrillic, the border with the sash & badge transfer printed with the sash & badge of the order within gilded rim. The reverse with green stamped factory mark & Winter Palace inventory marks Г.Ч. 8223.Diameter: 8 3/4 in. (22.3 cm). Condition: Small chip to the rim of the foot.

The Cyrillic initials G.Ch. (Г.Ч.) are those of the Gofmarshalskaia chast’ (Office of the Marshall of the Court Administration); these marks can be found on the reverse of many porcelain items used in the Winter Palace.
