A Daum Nancy enameled cameo champagne glass commemorating the Franco-Russian Alliance, 1893. The goblet enameled with the double-headed eagle of the Russian Empire, white eagle and cross of the House of Lorraine, anchors, and the device Qui s’y frotte s’y pique (No one attacks me with impunity) surrounding the thistle of Lorraine. The underside with Daum Nancy in black. 4 3/8 h x 3 5/8 in. diam (11.2 x 9.2 cm). Condition: small chip to edge of foot.
This historically important goblet was one of several presented to Russian naval officers during the official visit of the Russian Naval delegation to France in 1893. The delegation was greeted with lavish receptions in Toulon, Paris, Marseilles, and Lyons and the goblets were used to toast the new alliance.
