A Russian porcelain Easter egg, probably Imperial Porcelain Factory, circa 1910. The body of the egg decorated with purple & blue geometric motifs against a white ground. Height: 3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm).
Ornamental designs on porcelain like this were known “textile prints” because of their resemblance to modern printed cottons. The painters at the Imperial Porcelain Factory had just started to experiment with designs of this sort before the outbreak of World War I, but porcelain painters in the young Soviet state would continue to use these patterns into the 1930s.
