A monumental Russian silver gilt and shaded cloisonné enamel kovsh, Moscow, circa 1899-1908. In Art Nouveau taste with unusual shaped handle, enameled with sinuous birds among floral ornament against a green ground, the prow set with an imposing cast and chased heraldic eagle reminiscent of the symbolism of pre-Imperial Muscovy. Struck with initials ER (Cyrillic) or EP (Latin) of an unidentified master and with later Soviet control marks. Length: 13 in. (33 cm).
