Description

A jeweled gold Imperial Presentation portrait snuff box, apparently unmarked, but attributed to C. Weishaupt und Söhne, Hanau, circa 1860, the rim numbered 3618. Of cartouche form, the lid inset with a portrait miniature of EmperorAlexander II by Alois Gustav Rockstuhl, depicted wearing a black uniform within a diamond-set frame. The ground decorated in high relief Virginia creeper, further set with six large collet-set diamonds, the shaped sides & base elaborately engraved with a plethora of different types of leaves & flowers woven into strapwork. Dimensions: 1 3/4″ H x 3 5/8″ W x 2 3/4″ D (4.4 x 9.2 x 6.9 cm).
