A Russian porcelain serving dish made by the Popov factory, circa 1840. This dish is very similar in style to those of the Imperial Porcelain Factory, basing the design on the German blumendekor with a prominently featured pink cabbage rose in the center. In the first quarter of the nineteenth A.G. Popov bought a porcelain factory from Karl Melli, a German, whose factory had not been profitable. Popov was an astute businessman & turned it into one of the best private porcelain factories in Russia at the time. Diameter: 13″ (33 cm).
