A Russian gilded silver and guilloché enamel vesta case, Egor (Grigory) Pankratiev (or Pankratieff), St. Petersburg, circa 1899-1904. The rounded rectangular case enameled in bright sunflower yellow over an engine-turned ground within borders of engraved beads on front and back, the top and sides polished, the underside engraved as a strike plate, the interior gilded. Dimensions: 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 in. (3.8 x 3.2 cm)
There is relatively little known about the goldsmith and enameler Egor (Grigory) Pankratiev (Егор [Григорий] Григорьевич Панкратьев); works with his marks indicate that he produced objects with guilloché, champlevé, and cloisonné enamel. His mark appears together with that of Fabergé as well as the Grachev Brothers, indicating that both firms retailed pieces from his workshop. Examples of his work in guilloché are held in the Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg.
