A Russian porcelain figure of a peasant boxer, possibly Ikonnikov or Gardner Factory, circa 1860, apparently unmarked. The peasant merrymaker depicted in a black hat, embroidered tunic (rubashka), jacket, pants with leg wrappings, & bast sandals, the oval base sculpted & painted in imitation of a grassy ground. The porcelain mass of this unidentified factory is very fine & is reminiscent in particular of works from the Ikonnikov Manufactory in which the quality of the material allowed for the modeling of drapery & facial features with unusual detail. Height 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm).
