A Russian porcelain plate from the Order of St George Service, Gardner Factory, Moscow, 1777-1778. Of circular form with scalloped gilt rim, on the border the orange & black striped sash of the order is interwoven with branches of laurel & hung with the order’s cross, the center painted with the order’s star, on which is written in Cyrillic the motto: For Service & Bravery (Za sluzhbu i khrabrost). The underside with the factory’s underglaze blue mark (Latin letter G) & a star impressed in the paste. Diameter: 9 1/8 in. (23.2 cm)
